Brookside, Cranbrook Schools’ Lower Division serving students from Pre-kindergarten thru fifth grade, is seeking a caring, licensed and experienced full-time guidance counselor who is committed to the wellbeing of our students, faculty and staff for the 2020-2021 academic year. The successful candidate will be able to provide individual student support and counseling and be responsible for creating and implementing school programing that fosters the social-emotional learning, stress management and resiliency of students and faculty. This is a ten-month teaching position, but some summer work may be required. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

Responsibilities:

  • Work with students, teachers, parents, and outside professionals to maximize student success
  • Manage and support the implementation of a school wide SEL curriculum
  • Teach occasional classroom lessons aimed at increasing social and emotional aptitude
  • Collaborate with teachers and administrators regarding individual students
  • Provide counseling/consultation sessions with individual students and parents
  • Perform observations and make recommendations for interventions to support the academic, behavioral, and social success of students
  • Analyze outside educational testing and develop educational accommodation plans for individual students as needed
  • Provide referrals to professionals outside of school for more intensive psychological support; work as a liaison with these outside professionals to support their work and generalize interventions in the school setting
  • Participate in academic support meetings
  • Support in and lead crisis management and consultation
  • Provide support and resources to parents and the larger Cranbrook Educational Community through presentations, written resources, and discussion
  • Collaborate with other counseling staff on school-wide initiatives (e.g., faculty in-service presentations, community talks, etc.)

Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree in clinical psychology, counseling, social work or a related field. Experience in a school setting working with elementary age students is important.
  • Three-five years of related work experience.
  • Independent school experience preferred
  • Flexibility, a desire to collaborate, and strong oral and written communication skills
  • A knowledge of current law and best clinical practices is expected
  • The ability to observe confidentiality is essential
