Cranbrook Schools Brookside is seeking a Literacy Specialist, needed for the 2020/21 academic year. The Literacy Specialist provides early intervention support and remediation services to students in senior kindergarten through grade five who are struggling with literacy, specifically reading. Responsibilities include: Working closely and collaboratively with various constituencies to identify and support students struggling with developing literacy; teaching small groups of students to support the development of associated reading skills; consulting and collaborating with homeroom teachers in the area of reading to coordinate the Literacy Support Program.
Preferred Qualifications: Five years teaching experience at the elementary level; Michigan Elementary Teaching Certificate; BA degree in Elementary Education; MA degree in Reading or Literacy Specialist experience ; Orton-Gillingham and/or Reading Recovery experience a plus, ability to administer, evaluate and interpret diagnostic assessments as related to issues of literacy; willingness to continue professional growth and development with relevant course work and/or professional training; commitment to independent school education.
