This teacher serves as the homeroom teacher for these students, as well as their math and science teacher, and the math and science teacher for Japhet’s 7th- and 8th-grade students. (Another teacher provides language arts and social studies instruction.)
Japhet School is an award-winning independent school, nationally recognized for its successful integration of character education with academic education. The school focuses equally on character and academics, and candidates are encouraged to learn more about Japhet’s teaching philosophy and character curriculum on the school’s website. Japhet is a general education school, not focused exclusively on gifted or special-needs students.
Japhet School is seeking the ideal candidate to begin immediately. The current teacher is vacating her position on the last school day of December, and an overlap — when the departing teacher and new teacher can co-teach — is highly desirable.
This teacher will be expected to prepare lesson plans, integrate character, work one-on-one and in small learning groups with students to build individual skills, provide a nurturing learning environment, develop a joy of learning, evaluate each student’s growth in writing four times in the year, attend after-school meetings and other events, and perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School. Minimum qualifications are a bachelor’s degree, two years or more experience in teaching, and strong communication skills. To apply for this position, candidates should submit a cover letter and resume to: Kerri G. Vizena, Head of School, Japhet School, 839 S. Crooks Rd., Clawson, MI 48017. Email: [email protected].
